UPDATE OCT 2025: The keyboard arrived and it’s amazing – I love it!

I've tried various mechanical keyboards in the past but I always end up going back to my trusty Magic Keyboard. I prefer a low profile keyboard over a chunky one, but when I head about the Lofree Flow 2 my mech interest was piqued again. It sounds like an excellent keyboard, but after watching the videos I decided that the new design was too ugly (the asymmetry of it bothers me), plus it has a "touch bar" which is an unnecessary flamboyance as we've learned. Still, I'd started down a rabbit hole so I did a bit more research and came across the NuPhy Air75 V3 which stopped me in my tracks. 

The keyboard looks stunning to me. It's made with anodised aluminium, it has delightful keys with full travel, a big battery, colourful lights. It's low-profile and Mac-friendly (I'm not throwing away my MacBook for a Framework + Linux set up just yet!). It also has a completely unnecessary flamboyance, but it's not a touch thing – it's a physical rotary dial. I mean, come on! 😍 

I ordered immediately. Too impulsive, perhaps, because there's a chance I'll get frustrated with it just as I have in the past, but I'm all in for giving this one a good run. I'm sure I'll be bemoaning the lack of Touch ID for a while (it's so convenient for 1Password!) but the mechanical delight of the NuPhy should more than make up for that inconvenience. Here's hoping!
