I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair

It’s not that often I feel compelled to write about a new album. There are plenty of new releases I really like, no doubt, but sometimes they reallygetme and I need to write about them. It might be a situational thing as much as the quality of an album, you know. Like at certain times in your life you’re more “connectable”. I wrote about albums a couple of times when we were all locked down (remember that? 😬), and this year has been, shall we say, turbulent. So maybe it’s that?

Either way, this week I read a review in DIY Mag of Christopher Owens’ wonderfully titled I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair which they gave five stars. It’s a majestic record. Laid back indie guitar-pop/rock, country at times, with absolutely gorgeous guitar and melodies that grow and grow, with vocals doing the same.

There are hints of The Magic Numbers (Beautiful Horses), Doves (I Think About Heaven) or Dinosaur Jr at their most melodic (No Good). At times it’s dreamlike stuff, especially the epic 7-minute closer, Do You Need a Friend.

You know quickly when something is a keeper, a record that you’ll return to for years to come. I Wanna Run Barefoot Through Your Hair is one of those. A future indie classic that we’ll come to cherish.
