I’m genuinely surprised and rather shocked to read these recent takes from DHH. I don’t think he wears them well. 

Some people in Europe are pessimistic, yes. Mainly about a convicted felon being El Pres, about post-truth, about “drill baby drill”, about untrustworthy algorithms and Nazi salutes. 

What must be going on in one’s mind to be bullish on all that? 

You can’t wave these away as “day-to-day antics” that are somehow justifiable because you get to see the back of DEI. At least not in my mind. The cons (literally) far outweigh any pros. 

I’m a European and I feel really optimistic about lots of things, but any intelligent Muskian can’t deny that many of these (progress towards carbon reduction, for instance) are going to be trashed by this new administration. So forgive me if I’m feeling a little aggrieved rather than MEGA-positive right now.
