I finally made it through O'Hagan's magnus opus, Caledonian Road, this week. It's a state of the nation novel. A reflection on modern Britain from south London gangsters, to people traffickers, to London's literati, high society and royalty – interweaved narratives centred around Calendonian Road in Islington. It's really quite remarkable. If you get the chance, you should read it. Or you could wait for the TV series – the rights have been sold and Johan Renck (who made Chernobyl for HBO) is said to be directing. I have high hopes for that!
